Overview | Top

This program examines a business Website from the standpoint of its effectiveness as a bona fide business tool.

Your Website has a job to do. It must make money for your business, pay its way, and be a good employee. Its content must tell people what you can do for them. Never tell people what you do because it forces the reader to determine how to use your services or products.

Your web site is the destination of your SEO, social networking, e-mail marketing, and your personal networking efforts. It must be capable of providing for your needs and the needs of your visitors. You've only got 8 seconds to keep someone on your site. When you lose business because your Website is not up to the job, you lose money in that your phone does not ring, you don't receive e-mail. You lose money and don't know it. How much is anyone's guess.

These five questions provide you with a superb critique of your Website's effectiveness as a business tool:

  1. Who are you? Prominently display your business's name.
  2. What can you do for the reader? Never tell people what you do. Always tell them what you can do for them.
  3. When should the reader contact you? Now, immediately. This is a call to action.
  4. Where is your business located? This may be your city and state, or complete address, depending on your needs.
  5. Why should the reader do business with you? What makes you special, separates you from the competition?
