Using Celery Task Queue in a Content Processing Build Cycle

If you process content regularly, you might deal with capturing data from multiple sources, performing some processing, and then outputting to multiple targets. (For example, you might have a search index and a MySQL database that need to be updated simultaneously every week based on new content from a client.) You also might need error tracking and reporting. Wouldn't it be nice if you could build a system where you could automate all of this? Wouldn't it be nice if you could trigger your entire build cycle with a single command that will, in turn trigger all of the many intricate parts to work in unison?

I will demonstrate you how to use Celery task queues and task chaining to create an efficient approach to a build cycle that outputs processed data to multiple sources.

I will speak at the level of beginners to Celery, however some familiarity with Python would be good. Even if you feel that you are not familiar with Python, I hope to spark the interest of anybody who is involved in content processing, and to impart this effective approach which can be applied in many ways.

By the end of this discussion, you should be able to take a existing, monolithic application and run it in a Docker environment. Topics will include identifying the different services, persisting data in an otherwise ephemeral environment, service discovery, and stack orchestration.

Drupal 8 comes with a real good and well structured webservices, both from the Drupal interface as well as the backend, that interface plus it's new module structure are awesome to be integrated with the most popular javascript MVC AngularJS. In this sessions we will be covering how to build and use your Drupal application to be integrated at the same time with other platforms, like android and a static website, being Drupal the provider of all the information and admin interface, on terminology that would be called Headless, in here we will be showing how that integration can be made and how configurable and scalable both Drupal 8 and AngularJS are.

Docker is an exciting technology which allows developers to deploy software in a highly portable and repeatable environment, thus easing a path to production. Using Docker, one can:

Deploy applications such as Drupal, Wordpress and more in their own environments. Does your Drupal deployment require PHP 5.4, but your Wordpress deployment requires PHP 5.5? No problem.
Easily test upgrades without impacting production, as well as provide a way to rollback.
Migrate an application from one host to another
Efficiently use host resources- multiple Docker containers run on a single server, leveraging your resources efficiently.
Help keep your server secure. Due to container isolation, an issue in one containers need not affect other containers, or your host server.
